I’m not absolutely sure that “wintering” is a valid verb, but if not it should be. It is the location that we chose to spend the winter. But, now we are faced with making a change to the plan we made back in the springtime. Yes, it seems that so much today is in some state of turmoil that we are constantly required to make changes. And I’m usually quite acceptable to change if it is for the better. Our wintering plan changes are…
Summer in SW Virginia
The summer is quickly coming to an end. The daylight hours are starting to decline and the leaves are beginning their evolving into a fall spectacular. Pat and I both really enjoyed being back in a “sticks and bricks” home for the summer. We split our time between working on the place and getting out and seeing some local attractions. I will review our summer outings in today’s blog update. I was going to name this update “What I Did on My Summer Vacation,” but decided that since retirement, I’m always on vacation! Except for all those chores that arrive with owning a home again…yikes!
Family & Friends Visits
Since returning back home we have travelled to Indiana to see family and hosted several family members and friends at our place. This is a quick update for those visits this summer. Another advantage of having a home base again and being retired!
New Kitchen
By living through a pandemic last year, we decided that it just might be time to have a home base. To have another home and home base for part time RV travel. I always thought that I would know when, but could not have imagined that scenario.
So, we selected the New River Valley of Virginia to be close to family. And of course the southwest part of Virginia was our home for 21 of my working years. We looked at many homes, but during July of 2020 the country was still pandemic stricken so there were not really many on the market. Luckily, through a friend, we found a place with the perfect location in Radford, Virginia that was not even listed on the market. A 1956 house with the most recent updates done in 1989. We decided on this house knowing that many updates were desired including a new kitchen!
It’s Been Awhile!
We have really been enjoying the spring and summer in the Virginia mountains and our new mid-century home! So much so that I kind of got away from regular blog updates. It has now been over two months since the last post! I have missed writing and creating posts that document our activities and happenings in life. I will endeavor to catch back up.
Great Smoky Mountains and Back Home
It has been just over a month since my last post. Much longer than I had planned, but life has been busy. Good, but a tiring busy. Since that last post we spent a week in Sevierville, Tennessee and then returned to our home in Virginia. And a blur of activity after returning back home.
New Kitchen Progress Report
The kitchen remodeling project is finally making some progress. If you remember, we signed the contract and made a down payment in late October to hold our place in line. The basic plan was to completely remodel the kitchen and replace the flooring in both the kitchen and adjoining room. The further plan was to have all work completed in three months while we were gone south for the winter! Will they make it? Below is an update of the good and the bad…
Second Covid Shot – What to Expect
I do feel pretty fortunate to have now received my second dose of the Covid vaccine. Maybe this will begin the end of the grip that this virus has had on this country and the world. There is much information published on the reactions that people have from this dose, but I will give you what it was like from my perspective. What to expect…
Venturing Out – Biker Bar, Hike, and a Move
We are nearing the end of our month stay in Clermont Florida. It has been a month of hiking, taking long walks, reading many books, some scheduled truck maintenance, and a couple more excursions out. One day trip was over the the east coast to check out an RV park for a possible future stay. Another trip was to a cool little Tiki Hut on a lake for lunch – the Biker Bar! Then there was a hike and more!

Savannah, Ga – Part 2
Our four night stayover was long enough for a couple of forays into the city to walk between the town squares and admire the stately old homes. In part 1, Pat and I walked around a bit and had a great anniversary dinner. In part 2, I’ve mainly included a few more photos that I liked. Hope you do too. It was great to see all the Christmas decorations on the grand old homes. Savannah, Ga part 2 plus some other thoughts…
