La Veta, Colorado – The Spanish Peaks

It is a new state for us: Colorado! It was once again kinda sad to be leaving this very beautiful and diverse state. We have been in New Mexico for five weeks and it is time to move on. We have seen so much from the southern hot and dry desert of Alamogordo to Carlsbad Caverns to the high desert in Santa Fe to the northern NM mountain ski resorts in Taos and Angel Fire. Wow! Now we continue our journey northward to La Veta, Colorado and the Rocky Mountains!

Taos/Angel Fire, New Mexico – More Mountain Roads!

We are on the move again to Angel Fire, a northern New Mexico resort area after a very nice nine day stay in Santa Fe. Our RV resort is located in Angel Fire, New Mexico (pop 1,000 at 8,400 elevation!) that is about 30 minutes east of Taos, New Mexico. The tricky part is that we have a direct route via a narrow and twisty two lane road that is a 100 mile relocation. To make it even trickier is that snow and a frozen mix was in the weather forecast. Uh oh…

Santa Fe, New Mexico Part II With Family!

We continued our nine day stay in Santa Fe, New Mexico with a family visit during the last three days. Pat’s brother Mike and his wife Lorna made the long ten hour drive over from the Plano, Texas area. They will also move over to Angel Fire NM with us for another three days. It was great to see them again and to have help exploring this area of the country and the local food!

Santa Fe, New Mexico

It was time again to pack up and move on up the road after a very nice 12 day stay at Alamogordo in southern New Mexico. Our next destination is Santa Fe, New Mexico that is 259 miles Up North. Way more than I like to drive in one day. So, we planned a stopover in Albuquerque at the 200 mile point and then an easy drive of 59 miles the next day to Santa Fe.

Alamogordo/White Sands, New Mexico: Part 2

Let me start out with the fact that Alamogordo/White Sands, New Mexico is a small town of 30,000 people located in the Tularosa Basin of the Chihuahuan Desert. Some people have asked, why are we staying 12 days in such a small town. Well, we love exploring small towns and living like the locals. Plus we get to see if this could be a place to settle down one of these days.

Alamogordo/White Sands, New Mexico: Trip to Cloudcroft NM

The relocation from Carlsbad, NM to Alamogordo, New Mexico had a direct route on US-82W that was a two-lane with steep 6-7% grade mountain passes and with many sharp curves. It was only 127 miles but had many warnings for heavy vehicles. I try to research each move to make sure there are no low overpasses, hairpin turns, or otherwise impassable routes pulling the 41 foot 5th wheel trailer. The research told me to find another route.

Two Years Ago Today We Began This Journey: Happy Cinco de Mayo!

My last day at the office was May 5th, 2017, on Cinco de Mayo. How fast have these two years flown by! We began this journey with great excitement and some concern for the unknown. Was I doing the right thing by retiring early? Should we sell the large home where we raised the kids? Would we really enjoy living fulltime in a 41 foot home? Would we miss our family and friends? Would our budget hold out?
