Venturing Out – Biker Bar, Hike, and a Move

We are nearing the end of our month stay in Clermont Florida. It has been a month of hiking, taking long walks, reading many books, some scheduled truck maintenance, and a couple more excursions out. One day trip was over the the east coast to check out an RV park for a possible future stay. Another trip was to a cool little Tiki Hut on a lake for lunch – the Biker Bar! Then there was a hike and more!

Florida China Virus Update

The state of Florida has been 100% open for business for a long time now. On September 25, 2020, the state went to Phase 3 for all counties. LINK

Each place of business is tasked to keep a safe environment by maintaining distancing and sanitizing. For the most part, the small businesses and restaurants have survived since they were back open before many in the country.

I wondered how Florida was doing with the China Virus compared to the other states still under many restrictions. Here is the result of that quick search. Data as of Feb 11.

The Covid death rate in Florida is 28th in the US on per capita basis. LINKThe number of cases are also relatively low for Florida, also at 28th, which seemed a bit weird.

Lake Louisa State Park

Another nice 3 mile hike at this local state park. It even has a few hills to march up and down. A decent workout.

Titusville, Cape Canaveral FL

I wanted to check out an RV resort over by Titusville, so we drove about an hour and a half for quite a disappointment. It had the potential of being a resort with many features. Unfortunately, it looked a little junky. An RV resort can become a trailer park with just a few untidy residents. Think of uncle Eddie.

Then it was a few minutes drive south to one of our old stomping grounds of Merritt Island and Cape Canaveral. Lunch was at Grills Tiki Hut then it was back home to Clermont.

That’s us, Pat and Randy at Grills Tiki bar with a cruise ship in the background. The cruise lines are still grounded.

Biker Bar

Just 20 minutes north of us was a little restaurant/bar with some good food and the widest table spacing that I’ve ever seen. Maybe 25 feet between tables out in the side yard. Wish that we had found this place in Minneola sooner. On the weekday visit, there were no bikes, only a few people in our demographic.

Relocation Day to Williston, FL

On Feb 1st, we made the 1.5 hour commute to the north central Florida community of Williston. A beautiful drive through rural, old Florida, horse farms. At least it was after the Orlando suburbs started to recede. Lot of traffic down there.

More on our new park, Williston Crossings, in another update. It is a very nice place with tons of activities to keep us busy. We stay here until March 1st, then move over to Cedar Key for a deeper incursion into Old Florida.

Norman’s Cabinetry

Our custom cabinet maker is finally starting to work on building our cabinets for our new to us home in Virginia. They have had delays due to worker health, but got started last week, and will begin the old removal next week. The following week has the flooring guys doing their thing and finally the new cabinet/countertop installation a week after. All the work should be completed before we return. That’s the plan anyway.

Wrap Up

Next up in my blogs will be a quick day trip to the oldest, inland, continuously inhabited town in Florida plus my 2nd Covid shot. One of those was enjoyable. The other, not so much!

Take care and God Bless.

  1. Hey Randy and Patty. Your on the road again!! Fun to peruse your photos, travel commentary – and Covid check points. We will be in FL around March 15 to approximately the 27th, staying with a friend in Brooksville. He has an apartment. Would love to arrange a rendezvous with you!! Our holiday card to you came back, so clearly don’t have your current address. Send me a text if you still have my phone or go through messenger. I don’t do fb regularly.

    1. Hey Cousin! Great to hear from you. Would love to meet up, but we will be in Alabama by March 15, taking a slow route back home to Virginia. I’ll send you my contact info. Enjoy warm Florida!
