Wytheville Dinner Theater

One of our few times back out enjoying things we used to not think twice about! Our current temporary residence at the Fort Chiswell RV park is near Wytheville Virginia and home to a German themed dinner theater that we used to attend occasionally. After a chat with the manager, it seemed they were operating in a Covid safe manner. While we were waiting to gain possession to our new home, we decided to buy tickets to this small venue, the Wytheville Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theater.

History

The owners ancestors arrived in America in 1750 and settled in Lancaster Pennsylvania. Their son moved to the Wytheville area and raised his family on the Lewis Wohlfahrt Land Grant. The theater was named after them when opening some 20+ years ago.

When we called to make reservations, the rep went through their virus requirements. Wearing mask at all times except when seated at table. Also, washing hands or sanitizing on the way in. They also have the tables well spaced out due to the 50% capacity requirement of the state.

The Bier Garden. Notice the social distancing with the one lone chair.

Upon arrival we found that all the patrons were wearing masks in the main lobby while waiting for the inside doors to open. A waiter then shows you to your assigned table. I guess it was no surprise that all the guests were being careful as most were our age or older. As you might expect at a dinner theater.

Waiting to get into the inner theater hall.

The Dinner

Normally, these types of mass prepared meals are so-so at best. Plates covered with a metal lid to keep some of the heat in. While it was not a gourmet meal, it was quite good and very tasty. Here is a list of the meal:

Garden Salad
Pita Chips and Cheese Dip
Onion Crusted Chicken
Potatoes Au Gratin
Italian Green Beans
Baked Apples
Homemade Dinner Rolls
Brownie a la Mode

The Musical

Their shows rotate every couple of months to a new one. The show playing through early August was the Motown Sound, an R&B variety show. Very enjoyable. About 2.5 hours with an intermission halfway through when the dessert and coffee was served. Here is the info on the show from their website: Detroit in the early 60’s was on the moveā€¦home to major auto makers and Motown Records. This exceptional tribute features the music of the Temptations, Tina Turner, Diana Ross and the Supremes. Enjoy your favorite memories of Motown as you re-live what Berry Gordy coined “the sound of young America” and made a city come alive.

Wrap Up

We now have possession to our new home! In fact, we got the keys a few weeks ago and have been super busy with update/renovation plans. I will have another post in just a few days with a rough sketch of our plans and photos.

Our full-time RV travel may be over, but it will be an exciting time as we make the home ours and begin planning a part time travel agenda. We still want to escape to Florida for a few months this winter. The prior owner graciously left me two snow shovels! Ack!! Although going south is still undecided due to how many activities may actually be open Florida and the timing of our contractors for house renovations.

Thanks for following along!
