Ft. Chiswell Virginia; Hurricane Hideout

We have been extremely fortunate so far from the Hurricane Florence weather impact.  The rain was a constant warm mist type rain about all day on Saturday here at the Fort Chiswell RV Park.  Then some on and off slightly harder rain overnight, but no flooding at our location.  Today, (Sunday), it has been a little breezy with a very light mist.  We keep waiting for the worst of it!

The featured photo above is the small creek running along the edge of the park.  So far, so good.

I think after tonight, things will start clearing up a bit.  As I type at 4pm, it has become much darker and windier outside.  And there are still many watches and warnings scrolling by on the TV.

We are near the red X mark on this latest rainfall map.

This projection has us right at the edge of the path.

Our prayers continue for those affected and in its path.

On top of the weather challenges, we also are having some issues with the recent refrigerator and electrical system upgrade.  More to come on the upgrades in another post.  The issue has been with the converter that is used to charge the 12 volt batteries.  For some reason it failed just after the inverter installation.  Hmmm.

Our RV tech guy is to address these after a long weekend and some weather delays.  Until then, we are limping along after I bought a small battery charger at Walmart.

We made a to-do list for our stay in the New River Valley area of Virginia (our old hometown).  It has 22 items so far.  Many things to do and get done during our stay and based on the weather forecast, we stayed home for the last couple of days.

Our son Bryan’s wedding is October 6th and then we leave a couple of days later for two weeks in Tennessee, then other points south.  Hopefully, all 22 items will be completed by then!  Whew!

The few challenges of the RV life are still far outnumbered by the many everyday blessings.  We will work through the next few weeks!

Okay, back to making meatloaf for dinner.  Take care and God Bless.

  1. Glad you have missed the really bad weather. Good luck with the repairs. I have to agree the challenges are out numbered by the blessings.
