We’ve Moved! RV Park Issues in Florida

During the week of March 15th, things kept getting crazier by the day due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Florida state parks were closing their campgrounds and many private parks were all but shutting down. Our RV resort, Pioneer Creek, announced they were locking all common area buildings, restrooms, and the laundry rooms. Would their next move be to actually close the park? Would the state hold people in place? Okay, it is time to determine what to do…

A couple of weeks ago, we decided to stay at here at Bowling Green Florida until the restrictions were lifted. This area is very rural, away from all big populations, and I’ve heard is very poor overall. No international travelers. Probably a very safe place from the virus. No known cases either.

Even the restrooms were locked. Since our coach is fully self contained, the restrooms are no big deal. The laundry closing would be an issue in a few weeks, since we do not have a washer/dryer.

Obviously, there have been many changes in the last couple of weeks. Now things outside the county have changed, so it was time to move on.

We again discussed driving back up to Virginia close to family, friends and our doctors. The downside would be the 750 mile trip and some risks in traveling plus even greater is finding a reliable RV park in Virginia.

I called around and found a few options, but could they also go the same route as Florida? At that time, our friends offered their RV lot to use as their guest at condo type resort. Individual people own each space and pay condo fees for all maintenance and common areas. They will not be closing. It sounded great and is located near Orlando and is a gated community. Better still. Praise the Lord!

With the decision made, we packed up and left Bowling Green on Sunday morning cruising along with minimal traffic. We passed a truck stop that was full of trucks. Those guys are doing a great job of keeping groceries and supplies moving. Our drive was only about 80 miles and took around two hours as we had some stop lights and small towns.

We will stay here until it is safe again to travel and be out. It might be some time yet. Weeks or maybe months. Who knows. I feel it is quite safe here until at least the hurricane season begins in June. At least with hurricanes, we get plenty of time to evacuate . Crazy times for sure.

Below is my tracker of the US and world data.

Stay home, stay safe, and God Bless.
