I noticed an interest posting on the board while we were at the RV resort in Williston Florida. The Williston Crossings RV Resort has a full wood shop that has a couple of table top wood lathes. I have recently wanted to learn how to make some small wooden items on lathe – wood turning. Another new hobby!

We ended our month long stay at this popular winter resort destination in Cortez Florida. It has been a wonderful location. Close to family and walking distance to a dozen restaurants and bars. And we had a great visit from our three kids just before Christmas. It is hard to say goodbye, but it is time to move on to the east coast of Florida and a vacation. But, before we go there, here is a wrap up from the final two weeks at Cortez Florida – Part 3 of 3.
Yes, the word winter can become a verb! It is the location that we choose to spend the winter months, since our home has wheels. One of our full time RV goals is to target good weather with 75 degrees the goal. So, with that in mind, we plan to go somewhere south for the winter and then move into the northern states during the summer months. So, now the question is, where to winter next year (2020-21)?
Goodbye to the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas! We thoroughly enjoyed our time there over the winter months. Many new friends and tons of activities to keep us busy. So, we are now well rested and ready to begin Year #3 of our Journey. I still marvel at how quickly this time has gone by. We have many new places this year and a few favorites to repeat as well.
The winter season at our Llano Grande RV Resort (LINK) is starting to wind down into its summer phase. We are watching several rigs depart every day as they begin the journey back Up North. Most residents are still here in our section of the park, but everyone is busy making preparations to leave. Most will be leaving from mid-March to the first week of April.
As I write this, I’m watching the morning news. The cold weather Up North and the federal budget are a couple of the main stories. The temperatures in Chicago got to minus 22 degrees, but not quite a record cold. Wow! John Steinbeck was quoted as saying “What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.” Now that I am wearing shorts and flip flops and sitting on the warm southern US border, I can actually see the wisdom in that!

After a great, but long year of travels, we have arrived at our winter destination in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) of Texas. The RGV is in the very southernmost tip of Texas. Our resort is actually only five miles from the Mexican border! And it is a beautiful RV resort with tons of activities. We are officially Winter Texans now! More on that later…
