Llano Grande Events – Mercedes Texas

In this blog, I’ll review some of the larger events held here at the RV park/resort since we arrived in mid-December. It has been a busy, but very relaxing time since we arrived – almost two months ago!

I’m not sure what has happened to time since I retired. It has accelerated like a 900 HP Ferrari! I retired just over a year and eight months ago. It seems like yesterday, although we have seen and done many things in this time. Maybe I need to go back to work again to slow things back done. No, scratch that idea, the workplace frowns on our 4pm happy hours.

Albert Einstein may have been onto something that time is relative. All that I know is that time seems to be moving along much faster and the days quickly turn into weeks and weeks into months. Like some space time continuum has just whisked us forward! Maybe I’ve seen too many science fiction shows. Anyway, that is the feeling. Einstein must have been referring to time after retirement!

Llano Grande Events

This RV resort is quite extraordinary. The park sponsors many weekly events to attend. Some are free, but most have a small fee or donation. In addition to these park-wide events, each hobby group has their own schedule of classes or gatherings. The daily activity list that the park publishes can be 50 items long. So, we just pick and choose, or else stay home or go play games. Here are the major events:

The local high schoolers band and choir visited the park for a Christmas concert.

The park residents also put on a Christmas program. A very talented bunch.
The park’s Christmas dinner. A quite nice event.
Our park’s church choir. We attend the church service here when Tom Medlin is preaching. Elsewhere in the Valley on the other weeks. He is a retired pastor who lives full-time in the park. A very gifted pastor.
The Rio Grande Valley band visited us. This band is made up of many retired professional musicians, school band directors, and others with some music talent.
The wood shop dinner. The park owner built their large shop, bought all the equipment, and told them to maintain the place. This is their fundraiser.
Hand crafted items from the wood shop guys and gals.
Williamson Branch. A Christian family group from Nashville Tn. Blue grass, gospel, and country.
We attended the Winter Texan expo in McAllen. They had many exhibitors including this lady showing how to ride one of these death traps.
The quilt show from a couple of weeks ago.
Goldwing Express. Another family musical group, but this one is from Branson, Mo.
Park Place Men’s Chorus last night. They sang for a hour ranging from gospel to patriotic tunes. Very good. They took an offering to provide funds for a local food bank.

I close with some photos of local flowers we see on our daily walk. I now need to go out and play pickleball, shuffleboard and maybe a game of pool before the fast moving day is over! Please subscribe to the blog and leave comments, if you wish.

Take care and God Bless.
