Dunedin FL, Clearwater Beach, & Birthday

This last week, we took a day trip to meet up with Lois and Bob, another RV full-timing couple that we met in Louisiana.  They are wintering just south of us in the town of Clearwater Fl.  We drove down there to meet them at their RV park, about 45 minutes from here.  Then it was off for a day of sightseeing.

We started out driving to the good sized city of Dunedin. With a population of 35,000, Dunedin has several beaches that are rated among the best in the world.  Combine that with a very active downtown area with lots to do and no commercial signage and no chain or franchise restaurants or stores.  A place to eventually retire?  Perhaps…

This bird has learned that fish cleaning time means dinner for him.
We stopped in here for a “Florida” wine tasting.  The guy serving explained that in the Florida heat, you want these sweeter wines poured over ice.  They were too sweet for me.
And then stopped here for happy hour

Then on this Friday we celebrated my birthday.  It was a very nice day and quite low key – just as I like it.  In the morning we walked around the RV park as normal.  After lunch, we drove a few minutes to Odessa FL to sample the Big Storm Brewery.  While they did not carry any Scottish Ales (my favorite), they had several very tasty brews.

A nice selection
A strange looking crane along the edge of the lake. A Canadian guy said that he and his wife had found 80 different birds so far this winter and explained about a website to enter your finds and it creates a database for other local birders.

This tortoise is a land dwelling reptile and can live to be 150 years old. He was moving very slow. An indication of his age or just being a tortoise. Not sure which.

While in this location, we have been attending a large local Baptist church, Faith Baptist.  We like the preaching and the pastor’s biblical message.  Although I do miss the Presbyterian church that we attended while on Merritt Island Fl, and of course our home church at Draper Valley in Virginia.

Faith Baptist Church of New Port Richey.  This large church has three morning services that are all packed.  The pastor explained that the church had been growing each year while many others have not.  I still prefer the smaller congregations.
