It has been a crazy last week! I’ll try to provide an update here, although we did nothing too exciting except to dodge major storms. Living in Virginia, we have been to Williamsburg a couple of times before and always enjoy returning. So, we added this delightful stop to our 2018 itinerary for a one week stay. In addition to strolling through all of the old Colonial Williamsburg, we also were able to meet up with some new friends that we met in Florida, Sue and Calvin. We had reserved a great campsite at Claytor Lake State Park that is near to our old home town of Christiansburg, Virginia. We booked this site for the maximum time of two weeks to allow us time to complete all of our annual health checkups plus some vehicle maintenance.
This leg of our travels was about 400 miles over two days of driving. This is a bit longer than we really like to drive, but needed to get to our Virginia location for some appointments.
We also had an unexpected brake failure with the 5th wheel coach while traveling in the steep mountains from the Cincinnati area to a one night stopover in Huntington, West Virginia! Yikes!!! Continue reading “Southwest Virginia; Family, Friends, Many Appointments, and a Brake Failure! Yikes!”
Tigger, our 18 year old gray tabby cat, died this last week while we were back in our home area of Virginia. He was quite old and frail and had a bad heart condition. We knew that he would not last too much longer, but seemed to be enjoying his cat’s life. Up until about his last 4 or 5 days.
After our trip to the RV dealer for some warranty work, we drove about 100 miles to the north east to the perfect rural spot to enjoy some peace and quiet, hiking, and some history all thrown in – James River State Park. The access road into the park is longish and is basically a single lane. It is fine for our big rig until you meet another vehicle coming the other way and they have to drive off onto the convenient grassy area. It has been awhile since our last post, so trying to get caught back up now. We have been so busy with sightseeing and activities that we have rarely had any significant downtime or else limited connectivity. We found Asheboro NC to be a really cool and friendly small town located right smack dab in the middle of the state. The small town had a population of 25,000 people that we found to be friendly and helpful for visitors. Today (April 28th), we picked up our new home for the next 3+ years. It is a 2018 Heartland Bighorn 3760EL 5th wheel camping trailer. The day went actually very well after quite a bit of concern over some of the dealer caused issues. Continue reading “Our New Home”
It has been absolutely crazy! We could not have imagined the chaos and stress of this rapid downsizing and prepping for the newly arriving camper. It is now April 27th and we have mostly all moved out of the house. I’ll write a post soon about this process as it has been somewhat overwhelming at times, but we are excited that the day is finally here – we are picking up the new 5th wheel camper!
