RV and other travels around the World
We are now at our destination for the winter months in the small city of New Port Richey (NPV). It has a population of 17,000 people and is about an hour north of Tampa and includes our RV park – Orchid Lake RV Resort (OLRVR). I’ll post something on the park at a later date. This year we stay at one place for almost four months instead of park hopping every month. We’ll see how that works having a base of operations instead of many areas of exploration.
They say that the second time is a charm. I certainly hope that is correct as we are loading the RV up for another attempt at the migration south. We have a few more things to load and then we are off!
We have enjoyed some downtime after our ill-fated attempt to get in some RV travel prior to our wintering in Florida. It has not all been resting up and trying to recover from the nasty Covid virus. Actually, it has been somewhat of a busy four weeks since arriving back at our Virginia home. Relaxing in Virginia….
I’m not absolutely sure that “wintering” is a valid verb, but if not it should be. It is the location that we chose to spend the winter. But, now we are faced with making a change to the plan we made back in the springtime. Yes, it seems that so much today is in some state of turmoil that we are constantly required to make changes. The Forgotten Coast is the gulf coastal stretch in Florida’s upper panhandle. The section with the lack of condos, strip malls, and chain restaurants. This is the second and last post from this very enjoyable and relaxing week. No traffic jams, no large throngs of people passing on the walkways. Yes, I enjoy the quiet old Florida towns.
From our last location on the gulf coast we continue soaking up the Old Florida character by relocating to near Apalachicola Florida. This small old fishing village is found on the “Forgotten Coast.” From their website: Franklin County Florida, also known as the Forgotten Coast, is nestled in the panhandle of the Sunshine State. This beautiful region has been dubbed the Forgotten Coast because it’s the last remaining stretch of unspoiled, pristine Gulf Coast beaches that haven’t been overrun by high rises and strip malls. This is the final post from our time in this great example of Old Florida. Cedar Key FL is located four miles out into the Gulf on the northern west coast. It is the fishing village that time forgot. I’ve posted a few more photos in this update. Hope you enjoy!
In my last post, I reviewed the history of Cedar Key and some of the current status of the island chain located some four miles out into the gulf. In this post, (part 2) we explore the main island some more and try some of the tasty fares at the local restaurants.
Our commute was only about an hour on some lonely two lane Florida roads. Many scrubby palm trees and palmettos mingled in with the old twisted live oak trees fully draped with Spanish moss. And very few vehicles in this remote area. Very refreshing! Cedar Key FL – In Search of Old Florida!
I noticed an interest posting on the board while we were at the RV resort in Williston Florida. The Williston Crossings RV Resort has a full wood shop that has a couple of table top wood lathes. I have recently wanted to learn how to make some small wooden items on lathe – wood turning. Another new hobby!
