Back to Indiana; Family & Friends

Our travel from Bardstown Ky. to Indianapolis was a very easy 160 miles with very few steep hills or windy roads.  Nice long straight stretches of interstate highway.  While driving the interstates does not give us a good look at the smaller towns, it is quicker, and usually has many good places for a rest stop with the large truck and camper.

Our route included a couple of small KY state roads to drive about 10 miles over to I-65, then it was straight north through Louisville and then continued north to Indianapolis.  With a small section of the outer loop (I-465), we made our way into the same RV park, Lake Haven, that we stayed in last summer.

Since we had been here before, and I know Indianapolis, it was a low stress drive because I already knew of any hazards.  We stayed there from April 20th to the 27th.

Our purpose for this slightly out of our way side trip was to visit with both of our mothers and see some family and friends.  We may not be taking the RV back through this area for a year or more, although we will probably elect to fly back at some point.  Gotta see the moms!

Our oldest son Bryan was also able to fly in for a long weekend and stay with us in the RV.  We had a great time visiting both grandmas and a couple of breweries.

My mom is doing very well adjusting to her new Independent Living facility just on the northeast side of Indy.  We made several trips up to visit with her and one time also joined my brother Kevin, his wife Heather and their son Drew.

We also drove in the other direction a few times to visit with Pat’s mom in Greencastle.  She is also doing well living on her own at 90 years old.

While we were in Greencastle we also met a couple from our high school class who have also retired and traveling the country in a truck and 5th wheel camper.  Peggy and Mike Stone have been doing this for a couple of years now, so are old hands at the traveling home.

Unfortunately, Pat experienced a serious case of food poisoning from a salad at a very nice restaurant in Greencastle, In.  After a visit to the local urgent care doc and about 3-4 days later, she was almost back to normal.  That is not something that we want to repeat again, so have been avoiding salads for awhile.  Good old fried foods are back on the menu it seems.

We did miss seeing Ed and Sue Fain while in the area because of this issue, but hope to run into them somewhere on the road perhaps.  Next up we are headed to a few nights near Cincinnati to visit the Creation Museum and the full-size duplication of Noah’s Ark.

Our week in Indy went faster than we wanted it with a lot of time on the road and the illness.  I guess a small price to pay for all of the other blessings that we continue to receive.  Take care and God Bless.

    1. Yes, it was good to check in with them for sure. We miss the family while traveling. Yeah, it took Pat a few days to get back to normal. Not fun, but she is as good as new now! I used to think that was just a Mexico travel thing.
