Back Home & Indiana Trip

We left our Florida winter location on March 30th for our slow travel back to our home in the Virginia mountains. The drive is about 750 miles and while driving in the truck/trailer combination, I prefer to break the trip up into four segments, averaging 188 miles per moving day. That way we can be relocated and set up by 2pm and can go exploring.

Trip Back Home

The one stop that we took extra time to enjoy was Savannah Ga. Walking through the many town squares and having a fresh seafood dinner on the riverfront was very enjoyable. I did not take any photos as I have about a million from this photogenic city. We stayed at CreekFire RV resort this time for a change. It is a nice new park, but father away from the city.

When we arrived back at our “home” RV park in near Wytheville, Virginia we had a surprise chance meeting with one of our neighbors from the Florida RV park. John and Barb stopped over on their way back home to Pennsylvania. We were there to unload the RV and shuttle contents back to our house.

It was very nice to chat and have a relaxing dinner with them and of course an early morning coffee visit on the corner before they left to move on. Until later this next winter we will see them again.

We then took a couple of more loads to the house and then took the RV to the storage lot until the next adventure begins!

To Indiana to see Moms

After just a few days back home we were off again! This time to see our moms and family back in Indiana. We make this trip at least twice a year and are always rushed to get everything worked in. Pat always makes a ton of stuff for her mom’s freezer for her meals. This is her main eating for lunch and dinner and she is not able to do anything other than microwave cooking.

Our customary photo op at the Indiana border

Our moms are both doing okay. At their age, they both have their issues, but it was great to see them again.

We also saw my younger brother Kevin while in Indiana. He is still in the workforce due to his younger age and lives close to my mom’s facility. He just recently treated himself to a mid-life crisis present, a mostly restored 1973 Corvette with a new big block 454ci. Of course, it is a brilliant red in color! He took me for a ride around his neighborhood. A beautiful classic car.

Pat and I also made a quick trip to Terre Haute to see her nephew, Aaron, and his new wife Mai, and their two children. They have a lovely old Victorian home that they are remodeling as they have time. It was great to see them all so happy.

Pat’s brother Alan also came by to see us and we had a great time catching up. Alan is also retired and stays busy with hobbies. He lives in Terre Haute.

Spring/Summer Plans

Our plans are being developed for a summer RV trip, but nothing firm as yet. What we do have planned is our 50th anniversary Italy trip that was planned for a year ago, but we postponed due to lingering Covid restrictions. Now that all Covid requirements have been lifted, we are back on! This trip has been a two years in the making and planning stages.

I’m not planning to update this blog during the trip, but will do a review when we return. The details of the trip are below.

Best of Italy Tour

We decided to use a tour company called SmarTours. They are a well known tour company that uses the better hotels and provide a higher level of service. They take care of airfare/reservations, all hotels, all ticketing, and half of the meals. All we have to do is get ourselves to the Newark, NJ airport and that is another Amtrak train ride for us. We leave May 7th.

The cities we will be visiting are Venice, Murano, Florence, Pisa, Tuscany, Assisi, Vatican, Rome, Sorrento and the Amalfi coast with Pompeii. Whew! And this is over 11 days. So it will be a fun and educational couple of weeks. Pat loves the history and I’m going for the food and wine. Just kidding…

We leave in only 12 days and are spending our evenings watching Italy touring tips and videos. From Rick Steves, Rudy Maxa, and a bunch of YouTubers. Things appear to be much different over there and you just have to go with the flow. Okay…

It seemed to make sense to take a pampered tour around the country for our first time visit. Then on the next trip we would know most of the ropes and where we want to revisit and would go on our own. Ciao!

Wrap Up

Thanks for following along! I hope that your summer plans are coming together for some enjoyable travel and activities. Take care and God Bless.
