San Antonio – Mission to See the Missions

We finally took a day to tour the historic Spanish Missions during our week in San Antonio. One of the first things we did upon arriving in town, was to walk the Riverwalk and have lunch at one of the fine restaurants. We love the riverwalk. I could do that every day. It’s like walking a beach at sunset. You are simply drawn to it. On the other hand, the majestic missions are rich with 1600’s history and are interesting to study. So, just before we left San Antonio, we were on a mission!

San Antonio; King William Historical District

We really enjoyed walking through the King William district the last time that we were in San Antonio. So, returning to the city this was a must do enjoyable walk through a beautiful and historic neighborhood. Just south of downtown, this area is filled with stately old homes built in Greek revival, Victorian and Italianate architecture. It ranks right up there with Beacon Hill in Boston, the French Quarter in New Orleans and Georgetown in Washington D.C. We’ve now seen all four!

San Antonio Texas

San Antonio is really an amazing city.  The highlight is the 15 mile long scenic riverwalk that winds through approximately 5 miles of the downtown area.  It also has a rich colonial heritage that includes the Alamo and other missions.  Our weeklong stay in this beautiful city has me thinking that this could very well be a great option for the location of our future retirement home.
